7 Days of Smoothies
Zombie Mouth, Nine Days Later. Today marks 9 days without any solid food, but my stitches have almost entirely dissolved and my wounds are pretty much healed. Surgery on your mouth is no joke, folks. I'm really pleased that I was able to get through the whole ordeal without any prescription painkillers. This was my first big surgery since getting sober, so I was nervous about the pain but more nervous about having serious drugs in my house. There's a huge opiate epidemic not just in our neck of the woods but nationwide. Physicians hand them out like candy with little to no thought that a person might be a recovering addict. I know for me it would be a slippery slope. The moderation button just isn't in my genetic makeup, so one pill would mean the whole bottle in short order. When that bottle runs out and your prescription isn't renewable and you're in pain, where do you turn? This isn't to say that these medications aren't helpful to people that don't struggle with addiction and aren't medically valid, but I wish there was more forethought when they're prescribed.
Anyway, back to the smoothies. One good thing about only drinking liquids is that it's forced my hand to be more creative and probably a lot healthier. Hopefully soon I can eat ALL OF THE FOOD soon, but right now it's all smoothies all the time. I miss you, bread. I'm sorry I took you for granted all these years.
Blueberry Oatmeal Smoothie
16 oz. almond milk
1 frozen banana
1/2 cup frozen blueberries
1 tbsp peanut butter
1/4 cup rolled oats
2 scoops Orgain creamy chocolate fudge protein powder
Key Lime Pie Smoothie
1/2 package Mori-nu silken tofu
4 oz vanilla yogurt of your choosing
12 oz. almond milk
1 scoop Garden of Life Raw Protein and Greens
1 frozen banana
1/4 cup lime juice
Optional: shredded coconut, lime or lemon zest, crushed graham crackers
Chocolate Covered Strawberry Smoothie
1/2 cup frozen strawberries
1 frozen banana
16 oz. almond milk
2 tbsp. peanut butter
2 scoops Orgain creamy chocolate fudge protein powder
Optional: drizzle Nutiva Organic Chocolate Hazelnut Spread
Mango Pineapple Smoothie
1/2 cup frozen mango
1/2 cup frozen pineapple
1 frozen banana
8 oz almond milk
4 oz. yogurt of your choosing
4 oz. coconut milk
1 scoop Garden of Life Raw Protein and Greens
Optional: unsweetened shredded coconut for topping
Chocolate Almond Raspberry Smoothie
1 cup red raspberries (from our garden!)
16 oz. almond milk
2 scoops Orgain creamy chocolate fudge protein powder

1/4 cup frozen strawberries
1 tbsp almond butter
Optional: top with slivered almonds
Strawberry Cherry Rhubarb Smoothie
