Dead Bodies In My Mouth!
Not necessarily what you would expect from a vegetarian blog, but here we are! Two days ago I had major oral surgery performed where I had five extractions and four bone grafts put into my face. Those bone grafts are made out of human cadaver, which I never thought about until I asked where the bone came from for the grafts. Surprise!
After these wounds heal, I'll be getting braces to realign my top teeth so that I can chew properly and will be getting a molar implant. The dentist will be able to build me a wing in his office and name a new boat after me with all of the cash I'm handing him. I come from a long line of relatives that died without a tooth of their own in their mouth, so I'm trying to buck that trend. Gone are the days of protein bars and nuts and carrots and apples and crunchy peanut butter and crackers and pizza. At least for the foreseeable future. For the next year or so, I can't eat 90 percent of the food that I mostly sustain myself on, so it's time for me to get crafty with my blender.
Kendra has been super supportive throughout this whole ordeal, insisting that I get this procedure done now even though it costs a fortune and has turned me into a whiny, miserable, adultchild, because my pain threshold is not exactly what one would call high.
So, please, I implore you: send me all of your soft mushy food recipes. Smoothies, oatmeals, mashed potatoes, polentas, gruel. Whatever you've got, I'll take.
Here are a few of the recipes that I've made two days into this journey:
16 oz. almond/soy/coconut/cashew/rice milk
2 scoops Orgain Organic Plant Based Protein (creamy chocolate fudge is the most delicious)
2 frozen bananas
1 tbsp Woodstock organic creamy peanut butter
1/2 cup frozen blueberries
16 oz. almond/soy/coconut/cashew/rice milk
1 cup leafy greens (kale, baby spinach, arugula)
2 scoops Orgain Organic Plant Based Protein
1/4 cup fresh strawberries
1/2 cup frozen cherries
1/4 cup frozen blueberries
1 tbsp Woodstock organic creamy peanut butter
8 oz. almond/soy/coconut/cashew/rice milk
8 oz. organic orange juice
1/2 cup frozen pineapple
1/2 cup frozen peaches
2 tbsp. almond meal
2 tbsp unsweetened shredded coconut
1/3 cup full fat organic coconut milk (we have Native Forest brand in our cupboard)
12 oz. almond/soy/coconut/cashew/rice milk
2 scoops Epic Protein Plant Based Protein (chocolate maca flavor)
1/4 cup frozen strawberries
1 frozen banana
2 tbsp. Garden of Life prebiotic fiber
1/4 cup frozen blueberries
1 tbsp. Woodstock organic creamy peanut butter
Boy, golly, am I ever glad that smoothie time coincides with summer time!
